Stalling claim misleading

Scott Cuddy’s Jan. 7 letter on behalf of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers is misleading and inaccurate. The Bowers Mountain wind project has been denied twice by Maine regulatory agencies – first by the former Land Use Regulation Commission, then the Department of Environmental Protection.
In fact, the DEP denial in August 2013 was one of DEP’s most emphatic denials of a wind project to date. Despite the LURC and DEP denials, Champlain Wind, LLC, a subsidiary of First Wind, has appealed the project to the Board of Environmental Protection.
Similar to last month’s plea from the president of Reed & Reed, Cuddy is attempting to openly influence the BEP decision and subvert the regulatory process established to protect Maine from unnecessary and harmful development. Cuddy knows full well that regulators aren’t stalling – they’re just doing their job.
The real issue for Cuddy is that he and his wind partners are unhappy that their lucrative project at Bowers hasn’t been and hopefully won’t be approved. Hopefully, they get the message loud and clear when BEP denies Champlain Wind’s appeal of this disastrous project.
